چکیده
Body-centered-cubic (BCC) high entropy alloys (HEAs) can show exceptionally strength up to temperatures. Mechanistic theories are needed guide alloy discovery within the immense multicomponent HEA compositional space. Here, two new for strengthening as controlled by screw and edge dislocations, respectively, applied predict yield stresses of a range BCC over wide Results that theory, with one fitting parameter, capture experiments in many dilute non-dilute while parameter-free theory agrees having sufficiently large misfit parameter. These results indicate transition single-phase from traditional dominance increasing is enabled complex alloys. point use design high-temperature range.

Entropies in Alloy Design for High-Entropy and Bulk Glassy Alloys
High-entropy (H-E) alloys, bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) and high-entropy BMGs (HE-BMGs) were statistically analyzed with the help of a database of ternary amorphous alloys. Thermodynamic quantities corresponding to heat of mixing and atomic size differences were calculated as a function of composition of the multicomponent alloys. Actual calculations were performed for configurational entropy (...
متن کاملDesign of Light-Weight High-Entropy Alloys
High-entropy alloys (HEAs) are a new class of solid-solution alloys that have attracted worldwide attention for their outstanding properties. Owing to the demand from transportation and defense industries, light-weight HEAs have also garnered widespread interest from scientists for use as potential structural materials. Great efforts have been made to study the phase-formation rules of HEAs to ...
متن کاملActivated states for cross-slip at screw dislocation intersections in face-centered cubic nickel and copper via atomistic simulation
We extend our recent simulation studies where a screw dislocation in face-centered cubic (fcc) Ni was found to spontaneously attain a low energy partially cross-slipped configuration upon intersecting a forest dislocation. Using atomistic (molecular statics) simulations with embedded atom potentials, we evaluated the activation barrier for a dislocation to transform from fully residing on the g...
متن کاملDislocation kink-pair energetics and pencil glide in body-centered-cubic crystals.
When body-centered-cubic crystals undergo plastic deformation, the slip planes are often noncrystallographic. By performing atomistic simulation on the activation pathway of dislocation jumps in bcc iron, we show that the main reason for bcc crystals to exhibit this phenomenon is that one type of kink pair has significantly lower energy than all the other types on the same slip plane. Dislocati...
متن کاملStability of body-centered cubic iron-magnesium alloys in the Earth's inner core.
The composition and the structure of the Earth's solid inner core are still unknown. Iron is accepted to be the main component of the core. Lately, the body-centered cubic (bcc) phase of iron was suggested to be present in the inner core, although its stability at core conditions is still in discussion. The higher density of pure iron compared with that of the Earth's core indicates the presenc...
